About:
Hello! My name is Abbie Howard,
For three+ years I've been working remote as an Audio Designer for Double Eleven, based in North Yorkshire, UK.
I have had experience with the game audio development pipeline from pre-production through to implementation.
Prior, I graduated from The University of Huddersfield studying a bachelors degree in Music and Sound for The Moving Image, being awarded a First Class Honours (1:1). Alongside my studies I worked with a placement game development company Canalside Studios, as well as freelancing audio design, podcast dialogue editing, and creating library music albums for television placements.
Additionally, I have a background in Creative Media Production, being awarded a Dist*Dist*Dist*, which helped spark my initial interest with field recording, directing and cross-team collaboration, and developed my post-production editing techniques.
Equipment & Proficiencies:
I use REAPER for game audio creation and editing assets, and Logic Pro for music creation. I'm familiar with implementing with Unity, UE5 blueprinting, TortoiseSVN, MaxMSP, Adobe Premiere Pro, JIRA, and Wwise 101 & Wwise 301 certified.
Equipment wise, I use my Sennheiser MKH 8040 Stereo Pair (cardioid; frequency response 30-50,000Hz; extremely low distortion and inherent self-noise), Zoom H5 field recorder, AT-875r shotgun, Shure SM7B, Imelod contact microphone, and Zoom F3 multitrack 32-bit float field recorder.
I also love creating cinematic orchestral music. In my spare time I have created albums for The Nerve, ready to be synced on TV/Productions. You can listen to these albums here. Some recent placements include BBC1's Antiques Roadshow, BBC1's Countryfile, BBC4's Write Around the World with Richard E Grant, and ITV's Joanna Lumley's Home Sweet Home, etc. You can visit my Music Placements page for more examples where my music features, along with other bespoke tracks.
Since 2022, I've been freelancing music cues for the long-standing British comedy animation channel Eddsworld, the videos accumulating over 10 million views worldwide.
Interests / Personal Projects:
I'm a Women In Games Ambassador- aiming to recruit more women into the gaming industry as well as promoting diversity and perspectives. If you're looking to get into the game audio industry and would like some advice, please feel free to reach out! (abieohoward@gmail.com).
In my spare time, I'm always striving to improve my craft on redesigns, creating my own sample libraries, learning additional theory material, and love volunteering for SpecialEffect during event work.
I also enjoy developing audio tools in Cycling74's MaxMSP that are designed to aid sound design creation and manipulation. You can download my polyphonic Granular Synthesizer standalone application for Windows and MacOS, choosing your own suggested price.
This is particularly fun for creating new and alien textures, pads, and even UI elements, altering the grain density, pitch, and window selection of the audio source.
This tool allows you to alter the waveform movement direction and speed, basic ms. delay, as well as a moveable filter graph that you can apply with presets; with various 'scrub modes' to dictate the window parameters; and a record out feature which allows you to directly capture the output and place the file into your chosen directory.
Non-audio-specific interests:
Medieval swords and armour, intermediate Dutch, attending music gigs, Canon 750D photography, terrarium creation, Studio Ghibli, insects/invertebrates and sea-life, and wildlife conservation.
